Fondue cans get a second life!

DECOR IDEA

Getting together around a Chocolats Favoris chocolate is always a fun time. But What if you could prolong the evening even more? Here are two projects to make beautiful items to give a second life to your chocolate fondue cans!

The pencil jar:

I don’t know about you, but finding a nice pencil jar is harder than it seems. I usually just end up using a mason jar because I can’t find anything I like. Most are too boring or too girly.

To make the pencil jar (or makeup brush jar, toothbrush jar or kitchen utensil jar, etc.) that goes perfectly with your décor, you only need two things:

Clean your can properly and remove the wrapping. Then, by alternating your Washi tapes, wrap them around the can.

That’s it! It’s as easy as that! I also added a simple piece of white paper inside, to mask the can.

Holiday candles

Keep in the holiday spirit with this DIY (YAY!) by making Christmas candles.

You will need:

  • Old candles
  • A Ziploc or similar bag, and a hammer
  • A candle wick (available at all craft stores)
  • Your Chocolats Favoris cans
  • A metal pot in which to melt the wax. You should know that this is hard on pots, so it’s best not to use a good one. I used a lasagne dish, placed in a large pot filled with water to heat it.
  • Christmas-themed Washi tape
  • Your favourite essential oil to scent your candle (if you want). I chose white cedar, I LOVE this smell!
  • Pencils or a piece of wood to hold the wick in the centre of the jar.

Instructions

  • Put your old candles in the bag and gently break them into small pieces with the hammer.
  • Remove the wicks.
  • Melt the candles in your metal container, over medium-high heat, until the wax has the consistency of liquid slush (without big lumps, but not perfectly smooth). Pour in drops of essential oil and mix it. This is when you should pour it into your cans!
  • Before doing that, stick the wick to the bottom of the can, directly in the centre. I used melted wax for this step. You can wind the extra wick around a pencil and place it on the can, so that the wick stays properly in the centre while you are pouring the melted wax.
  • Gently pour the wax in the can. Be careful not to splash it!
  • Let it stand for at least a good hour.
  • When your candle has cooled down, unwind the wick from the pencil and cut it to the proper length. Then, wrap the jar with your Washi tape.

Ta-da!

Keep it for yourself or give it as a gift :)

Thanks to Chocolats Favoris for the wonderful project and Happy Holidays!
